Teaching/Mentoring Philosophy
Scholarship in Earth Science not only requires theoretical understanding of natural processes, but more importantly, involves hands-on experiences and observations, from which ‘educated guesses’ can be drawn with critical thinking. The highly diverse and interdisciplinary nature of this field tempts students to discover and inherently offers myriads of perspectives for teachers to showcase in class. It is the overarching goals of my classes: to foster students’ interests in natural sciences, and to develop critical thinking skills through practices in hypothesis building in an inclusive and supportive environment.
